Terms of Service
This directory lists Costa Rican surf businesses compiled from public sources. These terms explain what that means for visitors and, just as importantly, for the businesses listed here.
About the information on this site
We compile listings from publicly available sources, including Google Places data. Businesses did not apply to be listed, did not agree to be listed, and did not pay to be listed. We are independent of every business in this directory.
We publish the kind of information a customer would find by searching for a business: name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, photos, the rating and review counts shown publicly, and the amenities we were able to establish. We do not publish review text and we do not write editorial opinions about any business.
Accuracy — please read this one
Our data is a point-in-time snapshot, not a live feed. It does not refresh automatically. Opening hours, phone numbers, prices, websites and amenities go out of date silently, and some entries will be wrong.
Always confirm directly with the business before travelling, booking or relying on anything you read here — especially opening hours and whether a business is still trading. We provide this directory as-is and make no warranty that any listing is accurate, current or complete.
If you find something wrong, tell us at listings@costaricasurfing.guide. Corrections are genuinely welcome.
No endorsement, no paid rankings
Appearing in this directory is not an endorsement. We have not visited, vetted or verified the businesses listed, and a listing says nothing about quality or safety.
No business can pay us to change its rating, its review counts or its position in our results. If we ever sell placement, that placement will carry a visible “Sponsored” label wherever it appears. Ranking that has been paid for and is not labelled is something we commit to never doing.
Affiliate links and how we make money
We currently earn no commission on any link on this site. Outbound links go to the business’s own website or to Google Maps.
We intend to add affiliate links — links where we may earn a commission if you book or buy — to some accommodation and surf camp listings. If and when we do, we will update this page and mark those links clearly where they appear, not only here. A commission never affects a business’s rating or its position in our results.
Links to other websites
This site links to thousands of third-party businesses and services. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, and their terms and privacy policies apply once you leave.
Outbound links pass through a redirect on this site so we can count how often they are used. The destination is always resolved from our own records — it is never taken from the web address, so these links cannot be manipulated to send you somewhere we did not intend.
If this is your business: corrections and removal
Your business is listed here because we compiled it from public sources, not because you asked to be. So you get to decide whether it stays.
If something is wrong
Email listings@costaricasurfing.guide with the business name, the town it is in, and what is incorrect. We will fix it.
If you want the listing removed
We will remove it. You do not need to give us a reason. Email the same address with the business name and town, and say you want the listing taken down.
How we confirm it is really you
We will not act on a removal request at face value, because otherwise anyone could remove anyone’s listing — a competitor, a former employee, someone with a grudge.
Instead we contact you using the contact details already published on the listing, not the details in the request: usually a call to the phone number on the page, or a reply to the email address or social account shown on it. You confirm, and we proceed.
If the listing has no usable contact details, an email from an address at your own website domain works. If there is no way to reach you through anything on the page, tell us and we will find a reasonable alternative — we would rather remove a listing on good-faith evidence than keep one up because our information about you was thin.
How long it takes
Within 30 days of confirming the request, and usually much sooner.
What removal actually does
- The page comes down and stops being reachable.
- Search engines drop it. We tell them the page is permanently gone, but Google controls its own timing, so an old result can linger for a few weeks.
- We keep a minimal record that the removal happened — business name, town, date, and how we confirmed it — for one reason only: so the listing does not reappear if we ever rebuild the directory from source data. It is not used for anything else and we will not contact you again.
- It does not remove you from Google. Your Google Maps and Google Search listings belong to Google, which is where this information originated. We cannot change or delete them. To manage those, contact Google directly through Google Business Profile.
If you are a sole trader
If you run your business in your own name, some of this information may also be personal data about you, and you may have rights under data protection law — including the GDPR in the EU and Ley 8968 in Costa Rica. Our answer is the same either way: ask, and we will remove it.
Acceptable use
You are welcome to use this directory to find businesses, and to link to it. You may not scrape it, bulk-extract its contents, or copy the compiled dataset to build or supply a competing directory. The compilation is the work we have put in, and it is what we ask you not to take.
Liability and governing law
This site is provided as-is and as-available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Costa Rica Surfing is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on information published here, from any dealings with a business listed here, or from any third-party site reached through these pages.
Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited. These terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica.
Changes to these terms
We will update this page as the site changes — in particular when analytics, affiliate links or business accounts are added, each of which changes what is described above. The date at the top shows when this version was published.
